WHERE THIS FLOWER BLOOMS

This project aims to deepen the immersion into a piece of music by creating a virtual reality environment. The selected piece of music is an abstract of the song “Where This Flower Blooms” by Tyler, The Creator featuring Frank Ocean. The virtual environment was built to fit its subject matter as well as its easygoing and sunny atmosphere. In this world, the user finds himself in a car that is modelled after a 1960s Cadillac driving through meadowlands before ascending over a bed of clouds passing giant rising sunflowers.

The project started with the choice of the musical piece. The first step after that was to establish a certain tonality for the VR-experience with a moodboard. This was followed by planning the content and the course of the experience, as well as the use case.

The next step was defining the visual style and sketching and then modelling the content. This included the landscape, a bee, a sheep, a sunflower and the car the user takes a seat in.

The final step was animating the scene. This included simulating the bees' and the sunflowers' movements, as well as animating a POV-camera along the user's path.
